ABOUT

My Story

I originally trained in Textile Design but after spending some time as a Theatre Props Assistant, I moved to New Zealand and got a job in Nelson, working in a pottery making slip cast planters. I moved to Dunedin where for several years I was a wigmaker before studying for a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Otago Polytechnic, majoring in Ceramics. I returned to the UK and started making decorative trees, bowls and vases inspired by the rural landscape around where I live. I sell my work though a few local retailers and at craft fairs.

Ceramics for me, is a constant wrestle with my hopes and reality. There are so many variables in the process I try to think of everything that comes out of the kiln as a success. Despite experience and efforts to minimise any undesired outcomes you just never know what you're going to get... and that makes it interesting.  It’s a metaphor for life really, sometimes it’s hard, sometimes it’s disappointing and sometimes it’s surprisingly good!
